2017 MGATC scholarship winners... Ivytech (Ben Nusbaum) and Purdue ( Lisa Dorau)
Ben Nusbaum is the Master Gardener Association of Tippecanoe County's 2017 scholarship winner from lvy Tech Community College. Ben is from New Paris, lndiana in Elkhart County. He was a ten year member of 4H and a national Soil Judging Team member in FFA. Ben expects to complete his Associate Degree in Animal Science in May 2018. He has been accepted in the Pathway Program at Purdue Univer:sity and plans to begin studies there in Agriculture Sales and
Marketing in fall of 2018.
Ben's work history ranges from food service, campus security to landscaping. He was the Grand Champion in model rockets in 4H for Elkhart County and was in show and concert choirs at Fairfield JrlSr High School.
Lisa Dorau is the winner of the 2017 Master Gardener Association of Tippecanoe County Purdue Scholarship for Horticulture and Landscape Design. Lisa is a single mother of adult children ages 25-34 years. She has had many careers in her life including the construction industry where she used her Associate Degree in Building and Construction; she also has a Master’s degree from Ball State. Several years ago Lisa moved to Boston and made upscale furniture; but, she missed Indiana and returned. She is now a horticulture student at Purdue and considers Delaware her home county
Lisa attends class at Purdue part time and works full time at WL Payless floral department. She is particularly thrilled and thankful with the MG scholarship because the funds will allow her to finish her degree a whole semester earlier than originally planned.
