Canal Park
Master gardeners from Tippecanoe and Carroll counties maintain planting areas and answer gardening questions at the Wabash and Erie Canal Park in Delphi. In spring we plant annuals and perennials at the Boat Dock, plant pots in front of the Interpretive Center and throughout the park. All season we weed, deadhead, rake, divide, transplant and water the gardens with the help of volunteers, friends and gardeners. We are working to revive a Prairie Garden bringing back many plants from the 1800’s.
The park features a historic canal boat visitors can ride on in the canal with a costumed interpreter of the 1850’s time period when the canal was a major mode of transportation for passengers and cargo in the area. The pioneer village has homes and craftspeople representing life in a small settlement along the Wabash and Erie Canal in the 1800’s. The Kitchen Garden at the Fouts house was added in 2013 displaying plants specific to the canal era.
