2010 Master Gardener State Conference to be held in
Tippecanoe County at Purdue University, June 18-19, 2010
The Hanna Adopt-A-Spot was started by Mary Firestone and the city of Lafayette with several master gardener volunteers in 2004. The city provided the design and some plants. We, the Master Gardeners, decided do one half of the design layout because of the cost. The second half to be finished later.
We changed the layout a little with the approval of the city. In 2006 we expanded the Adopt-A-Spot to its present size.
Almost all the plant material for the expansion was donated by the Lafayette Master Gardeners from their own yards and mine.
I then arranged the donated plans to fit the city's design with their approval.
The city removed the grass and did the tilling. Four volunteers and I, along with Ron Weils, who hauled the mulch, helped with the application.
The city inspects the Adopt-A-Spots on monthly basis with a rating system
